1960's Hair and Make-up

The beehive and very short hair were hot in the early sixties but towards the mid to late sixties the chin length contour cut, the pageboy cut and long straight hair was in vogue. Some women also wore braids in their hair.

French manicures and shimmery eyeshadows especially in greens and blues were widely popular, false eyelashes and pale lipstick were the beauty basics of a 60's style woman.

In the 50's make-up had a peachy undertone and lips were often pink or red, eyeline was a little thicker than the pervious decades but eyeshadow had become lighter, wearing blues and green for the evening. Eyebrows were kept at a natural thickness.

The Hairstyles of this decade was generally shorter than in the 40's soft and curly but one of the most popular were the pony tail especially early during this period and the poodle cut which framed the face (very short curly hair), pin curls and using rollers to curl the hair were also one of the largest fads of this era. Long and straight hair was no where to be seen.

In the later fifties, the beehive and bouffant were in vogue.

For the evening the chignon and the french pleat was popular.

1940's Hair and Make-up

Classic 1940's Style Make-up

The 40's showed hair with elaborate curls, or pulled back with scarves and bandanas. A few of the hairstyles that were in vogue were pin curls, the pompadour, curled bangs, side waves/marcel wave, waved side rolls/victory rolls though the styles of the victory rolls were endless, the perm, shoulder length hair and the pixie cut (hair cut short enough for pin curling), the hair was generally parted to the side rather than the middle.

The natural rosey look was the make-up trend favourite rouge colours were often red with pink undertones, bright rosey colours and bright pinks with fuschia undertones.

Browns and natural muted colours were used for eyeshadows, full mascara, think black eyeliner and eyebrows were thicker than the earlier decades the arches were well defined using a dark brown brow pencil.

A variety of red tones were used for the lips from reds, pinks and oranges, the lips were slightly exagerated.
